a literary and arts magazine
a literary and arts magazine
ITINERARY is the literature-art magazine of The Episcopal School of Dallas. It is an award-winning publication, and would not be possible without the dedication of its members, editors, faculty sponsors, and, of course, the ESD community. The magazine is a collection of writing and art from our school community; submissions are received and then anonymously evaluated for inclusion in the magazine.
The Itinerary Club organizes, edits, and publishes the Itinerary magazine annually.

story of the magazine
In the spring of 1981, ESD's upper-school head asked a young teacher named Fran Hillyer to start a literary magazine for the school. Inspired by a magazine she had encountered during graduate school, Ms. Hillyer already knew what she wanted to name it: Itinerary. The word that life's journey, as well as the journey of the magazine and its readers, has many possibilities. That summer, she and a group of students attended a workshop at Trinity University in San Antonio and the following fall, Itinerary was born. Ms. Hillyer eventually became Dr. Hillyer. She led the magazine staff for eighteen years, and her work culminated in a silver crown from the CSPA in 2001.
Dr. Hillyer passed the torch to Christine Nicolette-Gonzales (affectionately known as Ms. NG to her students), who remained Itinerary’s advisor for the following decade. During her tenure, Itinerary garnered a host of awards from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, National Scholastic Press Association, American Scholastic Press Association, and National Council for Teachers of English. She was followed by Angela Sessions and currently the magazine is sponsored by Heather Cernoch, both of whom presided over gold-and silver-crowned volumes of Itinerary.
